I’ve Got A Garden To Grow

Balcony Garden

My balcony garden last year. Kruz always ready for the camara:)

I only have a small balcony, but that’s not going to keep me from growing some fresh herbs, maybe a topsy turvy hanging tomato vine, and some strawberries! What I’m planting this weekend: Continue reading

Up Your Flavor Factor When Omitting The Salt

Dill Crusted Salmon

My “diet” {I hate that word} is going great. I’m eating lots of protein, vegetables, small amounts of fruit, and only drinking water. I’m not paying attention to how much I eat, I’m just eating really good food and only when I’m hungry. However, one of the hardest parts is omitting the salt. Oh how I loooove my salt. I have 5 different kinds of specialty salts that I use on a regular basis right beside my stove as we speak. Each one with slightly different textures, grain sizes, and flavors. Fleur de Sel made in France as being my go-to favorite. But Table Salt is NOT one of them!! I would probably throw it at you if you offered it to me – just a forewarning! I think the stuff ruins any meal. Sometimes I even take a little with me in my purse when I’m going out to eat. Why spend all that money on a great meal for it to be ruined by Table Salt??

So since I’m watching what I eat until my sister’s wedding, I have to be creative in my cooking so I don’t miss my glorious salt. And flavor, flavor, flavor is key. Whether it be with spices, or herbs, or flavored olive oils, you have to up your flavor factor!

Dinner With A Friend

I brought a Grilled Calamari + Zucchini salad, and she served her delicious Chicken Salad she made that afternoon along with some cut up red & green peppers, cheese, and some wonderful wine. It was a great little get-together last night sharing food and chatting out on her porch while enjoying the perfectly warm, breezy air.

Butter or Margarine?

Ummmm, Butter!

I’m amazed that this is still even a question. Should you eat something made from just cream, or eat something that is originally GREY in color before they add yellow to it to make it look more appetizing to eat?? That’s a tough one. This article was in the Huffington Post today about whether to eat Butter or Margarine. The writer is definitely for butter. With the article is a video (below) giving you a glimpse into a century-old business that continues to make butter the old fashion way. The small creamery is in Minnesota and they have just one small “churner” machine and a tiny packaging machine, yet produce a lot of butter for the surrounding areas. Their storage is the size of a walk-in refrigerator you’d find at a restaurant. Continue reading
